General information about the visa to Uzbekistan
Who needs a visa to Uzbekistan?
Republic of Uzbekistan law requires most foreigners to obtain a visa to enter Uzbekistan, although there are exceptions.
The type of visa a visitor obtains – such diplomatic, service, work, travel or transit -- depends on the purpose of a visitor’s trip.
Citizens of the CIS countries of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine do not need any type of visa to visit Uzbekistan.
Citizens of of France, Italy, Belgium, Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Japan, Germany, Austria, Spain and Switzerland do not need a visa if the purpose of their visit is tourism.
How do you obtain a tourist visa to Uzbekistan?
Getting a tourist visa to Uzbekistan is a two-step process:
1. Obtaining backing for a visa from Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
2. Obtaining the actual visa at an Uzbekistan Embassy or Consulate abroad – or, in exceptional cases, at Tashkent International Airport upon arrival in Uzbekistan.
A tourist visa costs $40 to $60, depending of the length of the visitor’s stay. The fee is paid at the Uzbekistan Embassy or Consulate abroad that is handling the tourist-visa application.
How do you obtain support for a tourist-visa application from Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs?
Requests for Ministry of Foreign Affairs visa support must go through a travel agency licensed by the Uzbekistan national tourism company Uzbektourism.
The travel agency will forward the request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has seven working days to act on it.
The ministry will send a notice either agreeing to, or rejecting, the visa-support request to the Uzbekistan Embassy or Consulate in the country where the requester wants to obtain a visa. The ministry does not have to provide a reason for rejecting a request.
If the ministry approves a visa-support request, the Uzbekistan-licensed travel agency through which the request was made will receive a visa authorization number for the requester. The agency will send that number to the requester by email. The requester will need the number when applying for a visa.
In addition to submitting a visa-authorization number, a visa applicant must submit a filled-out application form and a passport-sized photo to the Uzbekistan Embassy or Consulate in the country where he or she is applying. And he or she must show his passport to those handling the visa-applicant request.
Citizens of France, Italy, Belgium, Great Britain, Northern Ireland, Japan, Germany, Austria, Spain and Switzerland do not need a visa if they plan to visit Uzbekistan as tourists.
Citizens of the same countries can obtain visas for purposes other than tourism under a simplified procedure that takes two working days at an Uzbekistan Embassy or Consulate in their home country.

2. Send a legible photocopy of the first page of your passport to your Uzbekistan-licensed travel agency by email attachment or fax, with email attachment preferred.
